Images from the 2011 edition of the Radio538 Queensday concert at the Museumplein in the Netherlands. With 300.000 visitors over the course of the day (the square holds about 100.000 people!) the largest festival on “Koninginnedag” in the Netherlands, the day we celebrate the royal family and our national heritage on April 30th.

Tomorrowland lighters

A collegue of mine noticed this photo in my Tomorrowland 2010 set and suggested to crop it a bit differently. As it all made sense I adjusted the image slightly (cropping it from portrait to square and upping the curves a bit). Other than that, the image hardly needed any adjusting.

Taking it was difficult with such poor light and my 70-200 (without IS) mounted. Fortunately I have a steady hand and squeezed a pretty much motion-blurr-less 1/15th of a second at f2.8 and 800ISO.

Just a nice photo to share I thought.

Queensday 2010 Museumplein view in 25 Megapixel!

View from 25 meters high in the RTL Netherlands television crane at the back of the Radio538 Koninginnedag concert area. Koninginnedag (or Queensday) is basically the biggest yearly national party in the Netherlands and the Radio538 hosts a large free festival in Amsterdam which about 200.000 people attend during the course of the day.

The panorama is a stitch of several Canon 5DmkII images to make it one 25 megapixel super panorama. Watch out for more to come.

Some concert images for a change. I’m normally not too much into band-photography but these guys should be an exception: Kyteman Hip Hop Orchestra! Literally, because it’s quite hard to get a decent photo of them with incredible poor lighting on stage and the whole lot of them running all over the place. Shot some extra pics and managed to get a few nice captures, please enjoy them. All are uploaded in large size so they’re pretty much ready to go for your desktop wallpaper.

One of the strangest days ever: April 30th 2009. What started out as a bright sunshiny happy day quickly turned into the sobering reality of somebody crazy enough to destroy innocent lives for a mindless attack on the royal family. Koninginnedag 2009 will forever be the one with a black lining. However, as one cannot send 150.000 people back home instantly: the show on the Museumplein simply just had to go on. A good show nonetheless but obviously most people lost a bit of their partymood (yours truly included)… A weird day indeed and therefore just a small gallery this time. Metallica at Pinkpop 2008

What a nice treat: while working for Jack Daniels at the Pinkpop festival, edition 2008 I had a couple of minutes to spare to photograph Metallica at the mainstage. Not enough time to do it really properly but still good enough to shoot a couple of nice pics and a really great one. What more can one ask for? A Jack and Coke?

While I’m in Scotland enjoying a four day holiday-slash-little-work-thing I couldn’t resist quickly uploading a good selection of the Koniginnedagconcert photo’s from the Museumplein in Amsterdam. This was the fifth or sixth time I photographed this fun event for organizers Radio538, the largest Radiostation in the Netherlands. About 100.000 people visit the concert, the largest one for Queensday.
