Although I absolutely have no love for the whole commercialized Valentine’s rubbish but this photo, taken last year during the Caribbean Carnaval in Aruba, was just too good not to post. So for those who enjoy this day: have fun, get lots of love and I hope you like the shot!
As the physical cards have now been sent by traditional snailmail it’s time to drop one online:
The photos are:

The birth of our second child; Luc Steven Geerling is welcomed into our family. Hello World!
Weekly Random Shot: Baby Boy Luc

Our little baby boy Luc, at six months. A very happy smiling little fellow who’s looking great in Blue!
Shot with my 50mm (the cheap-ass one from Canon f1.8) at f2 and an exposure bias of 1 full stop in order to keep the dark bits as they should be. I took the quick, lazy option of shooting Av because I didn’t want to risk losing the moment. After setting things up quickly it was just a matter of focussing properly (not always easy with this lens: it is rather poorly built, but so is the 5 times more expensive f1.4), getting the right frame and start clicking away!
Afterwards it turned out there was no need for hurry, Luc loves smiling and took plenty of time to pose for the camera. Out of 30 shots this one came out nicest.

It’s…. the 11th of the 11th, time for Carnaval!

A three-day visit to an island which is ten hours by plane and a couple hours in jetlag. Crazy? Not really, considering I was there to photograph the famous Caribbean Carnaval on the tiny Dutch Antilles island of Aruba. It’s the second-largest carnaval celebration in the whole caribbean and famous for its laid-back atmosphere and accessibility.
And boy was it worth the trip! Two days of sunny and happy people parading the streets of both major towns on the island: the very easy-goinh parade on Saturday in San-Nicolas and the massive and crowded Sunday main event in Oranjestad. Hours and hours of incredibly colorful people and costumes. I don’t think I’ve seen so many feathers. I guess the images speak for themselves, please enjoy and make sure you’re in the neighborhood next year!
