James Holden uhm, rocking?, the crowd…
Photo was taken at the 10 year Anniversary party of Awakenings: Awakefest in the Recreation Area Halfweg. June 26th 2010
When I entered the tent where James Holden was performing I immediately saw this couple at the front of the crowd.
I always have one camerabody with a telelens ready to shoot at these large events (which means: set at Av). Sometimes you have to act so quickly there is no time to adjust your settings properly on manual. So this one was taken with a maximum open aperture (f5) with my 100-400mm Canon EF f4.5-5.6. While shooting I adjusted to -2/3 of a stop in order to get a darker image and a slightly higher shuttertime (at 800ISO). I was hoping to get the couple frozen (they weren’t moving, so that was easy) with a blurred crowd behind them due to movement.
Fortunately the lens has stabilization so I can take really low shuttertimes (1/13th in this image) with my pretty steady hand. Took a whole bunch of shots and this one came out nicest (some are sharper but I like the people moving next to them, like the guy on the left, in this shot).
Converted it to B&W in Photoshop to get some more focus on the couple: reds turned up in the B&W control panel and then used levels to deepen the blacks and finally slightly upped their mouthes with a mask and then adjusting with the curve tool as there was a bit of shadow in that part of the shot.

Trance Energy 2010 in Utrechts Jaarbeurs. Great edition with Nic Chagall, Markus Schultz, Sander van Doorn, Armin van Buuren (live by satellite from New York) and Above & Beyond really getting the masses jumping at the mainstage.

Images from two weeks ago, long overdue to being abroad too much lately, when Bacardi Visita went sailing on the Pureliner ship in Amsterdam. Simply a very hot edition! Enjoy the slideshow…
Images from a very long night (17:00 till 07:00): the 2009 edition of Q-Base at Airport Weeze. A supernice old millitary airport with plenty of old bunkers and hangars that serves as the backdrop for this yearly hardhouse festival.
Just a small set (43 images) of my favorite photo’s from Sundays’ Tomorrowland 2009 edition. As won’t be having a lot of time the next few days it might take me a bit longer to upload a full gallery. So, until then: enjoy these shots and wait for more to come.
Tomorrowland Wallpapers will be ready before the weekend.
[UPDATE] A large gallery of Saturday images here.
[UPDATE II] And a full set of Sundays images here.
Oh boy what a day: getting up at 04:00 to catch a cab to the Austrian airport at Klagenfurt in order to get home in time for Trance Energy is not much fun. Doing a full nights gig after 5 hours of sleep (plus a massive nap in the late afternoon) is normally not my cup of tea but with an amazing stage, show and lights and most importantly: a very happy crowd, the night was over before I even had the feeling it begun. It’s nice to start a night with plenty of cool shots straight away and plenty of other nice ones all through the night. Trance Energy 2009 was really one of the nicest editions ever for photographers, soo much light one couldn’t go wrong!

Trance Energy Wallpapers should be ready by tomorrow afternoon, there’s just too many cool shots to choose from!
A dance party a a homely location, Bacardi hits it off with an amazing new concept: Bacardi Visita. I was seriously impressed how an office floor got converted to a hot-hot-hot-partynight! With Beesmunt Soundsystem, Steven de Peven, Mocky and Golden Bug.
The idea of this new Bacardi concept is to recreate the old and glorious Cuban partynights hosted by the family-owned Bacardi company. Like entering someones livingroom and hitting it off with hot music, atmosphere and freshly mixed drinks.
My job was to capture this atmosphere and combine the old with the new. With a setting like this and a good bit off camera-tweaking I think it came out pretty well. A hot Cuban night with friends captured in stills. Enjoy!
Busy as it is I haven’t had the time to work on the images (not a big fan of ding so anyway).. all these are straight from the camera… hope that’s good enough for you!
